Rosneft (ROSN.RS) has approached
Russia
's
energy ministry over the liberalization of liquefied natural gas in three
contracts, the company's Chief Executive Igor Sechin said, Russian news
agencies reported Friday.
Mr. Sechin said all the conditions for securing permission from the government
for LNG export have been created.
Earlier Friday Rosneft signed LNG deals with Exxon Mobile Corp, Sodeco and
commodity-trading firm Vitol. Mr. Sechin said Rosneft will supply Vitol with
2.75 million tons of LNG in accordance with the contract.
The deals came after President Vladimir Putin said
Russia
will
be gradually moving towards liberalization of LNG exports which will allow
companies other than the state gas monopoly OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) to sell that fuel
abroad.
Mr. Sechin also spoke of potentially attracting Indian ONGC and Japanese Sodeco
as partners for the LNG plant in
Sakhalin
, a
Russian island in the North Pacific.
