Russian natural gas exports to Germany declined nearly 16% in 2009 due mostly to supply disruptions related to the dispute between Russia and Ukraine early in the year, German energy lobby group BDEW said Friday.

Gas imports from
Russia fell to 32% of overall German consumption in 2009, down 15.6% from 37% a year earlier, the BDEW said in a written statement.

The decline in gas deliveries from
Russia was compensated by increased supply from Norway , the Netherlands , Denmark and the U.K. , it said.

Imports of Norwegian gas increased to 29% of total consumption from 26% a year earlier. The
Netherlands delivered around 20% of German gas consumption in 2009, up around 1 percentage point from 2008, the BDEW said.

Gas from the
U.K. and Denmark accounted for around 6% of German gas imports, compared with 4% a year before.

German gas production declined by around 1 percentage point in 2009 to 13% of consumption, the BDEW said.
