Croatia will start implementing the European Union legislation on biofuels in an attempt to make the industry competitive, local media report.
Under the Union’s requirements, the member states should quarantee a proportion of 5.75% of renewable and biofuels presenting on their markets by the end of 2010. Two biodiesel production plants were ensconced in Croatia and started production in 2006. Larger plants are expected to be built soon. They are planned to have capacity to produce up to 100,000 tons of biodiesel annually.
Ahead of Croatia’s accession in the bloc by 2010, it will have to adopt the same 5.75% ratio of biofuels on its market by the time. Croatia has the potential to use rapeseed and corn for biofuel production.
