Ankara now plans to host international experts to review the energy issues of Iraq, following the invitation to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki to visit Turkey, diplomatic sources said yesterday.
During a recent meeting in Sharm El Sheikh, three sub-committees were established and Turkey got the chairmanship of the energy sub-committee.
“We are planning to host them here but neither the venue nor the date of the meeting is fixed yet,” a source said on the condition of anonymity. The Turkish Daily News learnt that the meeting will be held late June where Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki is expected in Ankara.
As the chairman, Turkey will try to sustain technical assistance in the fields of energy and electricity for Iraq. The aim of the committee is to develop the infrastructure of Iraq. The decisions and action plans of the committee meetings is expected to be carried forward to the next expanded Iraqi neighbors meeting that will be held in Istanbul this fall.
