In view of the international concern and uncertainty with regard to the security of energy supplies, especially by the petroleum importing countries but also the emergence of the Energy Community in South-east Europe, IENE, is convening a top level meeting of energy experts and energy business executives of the S.E. European countries in Makedonia Palace Hotel in Thessaloniki, 28-29 June.
The purpose of the meeting is to bring together high-ranking government officials, senior business executives and energy experts from the countries of S.E. Europe for an unofficial 2-day meeting with the objective of exchanging information and ideas, networking and the shaping of political action required in order to face the energy and environmental challenges in the area.
This first “Energy Dialogue” meeting has been conceived as a parallel and supportive initiative to the “Athens Process” and within the framework of the “Energy Community”. The “Energy Dialogue” will focus on the business development and investment requirements of the “Energy Community” process, as opposed to the legal and regulatory aspects which currently dominate the workings of the “Athens Process”.
The conclusions and recommendations of the Energy Dialogue will be submitted to the governments of the South-east Europe countries and to international organizations and leading energy think-tanks.
Among key speakers will be Dr Evangelos Lekatsas, chairman of Hellenic Transmission System Operator (DESMIE), Mr Michael Loufir, of the Emerging Market Research of National Bank of Greece, Dr Narsi Ghorban, director of research of the International Institute for Caspian Studies in Iran, Mr Helge Billington, project manager of Shah-Deniz Field of Statoil in Azerbaijan and Mr Kursat Capanoglou of BOTAS, in Turkey the lead energy economist Istvan Dobozi of The World Bank, and Geoff Morrison, programme manager of IEA’s Clean Coal Centre.
Also representatives from the energy business sector including Mr Naske Afezolli, Head Sales & Supply East, Gas & Power of Swiss EGL, Mr Riccardo Rocca, of hydrocarbons business development of Italy’s Edison and senior executives from the Balkan countries including Mr Vladimir Durovic, of Plinacro Ltd in Croatia, Mrs Gabriela Mares, head of International Cooperation Department of Transgaz in Romania and Mrs Denitsa Beyazova, head of International Projects Department of Bulgargaz-Holding, in Bulgaria will deliver keynote presentations.
In the second day of the conference, parallel sessions will be organized in association with the major European energy federations which include: Eurelectric, and European Renewables Energy Federation (EREF).
