Bulgaria and Kazakhstan could work together on joint projects in the transport and energy infrastructure, Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Ivaylo Kalfin told reporters after meeting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev on Tuesday, according to local media. "Kazakhstan invests a lot in the infrastructure of its neighbours, like [Georgian port] Poti, which could be its link to Bulgaria, because there is already a Burgas-Poti ferry line," Kalfin said. One of the main topics of talks was the planned Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline, for which Bulgaria is still looking for deliveries. But Kalfin was evasive about the outcome of the talks. "We want to find a solution that would satisfy all the parties to the project and would use the pipeline's full capacity," he said. More negotiations could follow, with Kalfin inviting Nazarbaev to visit Bulgaria, while the pipeline not scheduled to become operational before the end of the decade. Kalfin is on a four-day tour of Central Asia, the first visit by a top Bulgarian official to the region in more than a decade, with visits to Tajikistan and Turkmenistan to follow after Kazakhstan.
