Enel SpA plans to purchase by the end of the year three Mexican
hydroelectric power plants for a combined capacity of 52 megawatts as
it seeks to grow in Central America, said an official of the Italian
utility Thursday.
"We hope to conclude the purchase for the three plants by
the end of the year," said Roberto Deambrogio, head of renewable energy
development at Enel. He was speaking at on the sidelines of the World
Energy Congress in Rome.
Deambrogio said purchase talks were with a U.S. investment
company. He didn't disclose the price but said these were part of the
"few hundred million euros" Enel has set aside as investments for
Central America.
The Rome-based utility is planning to expand its renewable
energy activities in the American continent. Chief Executive Fulvio
Conti last week said Enel was only looking to expand in renewables in
North America.
