Oil prices are unlikely to decrease in the near term, French oil major Total SA's chief executive Christophe de Margerie said Wednesday.

De Margerie was speaking on the fringes of the inauguration of a new production line of Photovoltech, a photovoltaic cell production company owned by Total, Suez and the Interuniversity Microelectronics Center.

Crude oil prices in Asia rose to a record above $99 a barrel Wednesday, lifted by worries about inadequate supplies as the northern hemisphere enters winter and on news of refinery problems.
