The economics ministry will present a package of measures to the Cabinet by May 2008, Glos said at the Handelsblatt energy conference in
Berlin
.
The package will include measures that will considerably shorten the official approval process for important power grids projects, Glos said. The economics ministry is also intending to work out concrete planning guidelines for future electricity networks, also aimed at speeding up the approval process, he added.
The economics ministry and the network regulator have repeatedly warned that the slow approval process is delaying urgently needed investment into power grids, which could cause bottlenecks in the supply of electricity.
