Turkish Energy Minister Hilmi Guler said late Tuesday that German utility RWE AG (RWE.XE) has been chosen as the sixth partner in the Nabucco natural gas pipeline project, planned to carry Caspian gas to Central Europe through Turkey and the Balkans.
"Our new partner is German RWE...we will continue our way as six partners," Guler told IHA, on the sidelines of a clean energy conference.
RWE and Gaz de France (1020848.FR) had been widely reported to be among the bidders.
Some reports said Turkey backed RWE as the sixth partner over Gaz de France as France passed a bill making it a crime to deny that mass killings of Armenians under Ottoman rule during World War I was a genocide, which Turkey vehemently opposes.
