Ukraine's government Wednesday passed a resolution theoretically allowing state energy company Naftogaz Ukrainy to siphon off transit gas destined for Europe, should a problem arise with domestic supplies, the Vedomosti daily reported Friday.
The resolution, which was passed after Russia's OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) Monday cut deliveries to Ukraine over a payment dispute, would allow Naftogaz to take gas from underground storage facilities of pipeline subsidiary Ukrtransgaz if it needed additional volumes for domestic consumers.
