Spain's government plans to close one of the country's eight nuclear plants next year, despite calls from power utilities to extend the plant's operational life for ten additional years, ABC reports, citing government sources.

The Santa Maria de Garona plant, north of Madrid, has a 466 megawatt installed capacity and is currently operated by Endesa SA (ELE.MC) and Iberdrola SA (IBE.MC), the newspaper added.
