ROME (Dow Jones)--Enel SpA (EN) Chief Executive Fulvio Conti and OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) Chairman Alexey Miller met in Moscow Wednesday to discuss joint projects in power and gas, the two companies said in a statement.

"During the meeting, the two managers spoke about cooperation in the gas and oil sectors, in particular about further developing common projects in power and gas in Italy, Russia and other countries," the companies said.

Italian utility Enel owns part of the hydrocarbon assets of former bankrupt Russian company OAO Yukos, as well as a majority stake in power generator OAO OGK-5 (OGKE.RS).

In return for access to the Russian assets, Enel has offered Gazprom a stake in a power plant in Italy. Conti has also previously said the two companies were looking at initiatives in Europe.
