The overwhelming majority of Czech parliamentarians favor expanding the country's nuclear power generation base, despite a handful of politicians from the Green party blocking expansion, magazine Ekonom reports Thursday.

The magazine says it polled all 200 members of parliament, and of those 190 said they support expanding the 2,000 megawatt Temelin nuclear power plant, owned by CEZ AS (BAACEZ.PR), by adding another two 1,000 megawatt reactor units.

The report says it would cost roughly 140 billion koruna ($8.79 billion) to expand the plant.

The Czech coalition government since 2006 has agreed to not discuss expanding nuclear capacity, because the Czech Green party, which enables the coalition to hold power, is against nuclear power plants.
