Italy's new government, led by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, late Thursday said the current chief executive and chairmen of the country's top energy giants Eni SpA (E) and Enel SpA (ENEL.MI) are in its list proposal for the new boards to be reappointed.
In a statement, the treasury said its board list proposal for Eni includes CEO Paolo Scaroni and Chairman Roberto Poli. The list proposal for Enel includes CEO Fulvio Conti and Chairman Piero Gnudi.
The Italian government controls the two companies, meaning effectively its board proposals are the ones picked.
Shareholders of Eni and Enel are scheduled to meet in June to select a new board for a three-year term.
The confirmation of the Eni and Enel CEOs and chairmen was expected.
