State-run Czech power company CEZ AS (BAACEZ.PR) has completed an environmental impact assessment for the expansion of its Temelin nuclear power plant, newspaper Hospodarske Noviny reports Friday, citing sources close to the government.
Temelin has two 1,000 megawatt reactors, and CEZ plans to add two more reactor of the same capacity, but has been delayed in its plans due to objections from the Green party, which holds key votes in the government.
Later this year a government commission set up to determine the long-term outlook for the country's energy needs is expected to find that expanded nuclear capacity is necessary. That would likely force the Greens to accept plans to expand Temelin.
