Iraq's crude oil exports from northern oil fields fell 145,000 barrels a day in June compared with the previous month, a shipping agent said Wednesday.

"Iraq exported an average of 300,000 barrels a day of its crude oil from its northern oil field," said a shipping agent in Turkey's Ceyhan oil terminal, from where Iraq exports its northern crude oil.

In Baghdad, an Iraqi oil official confirmed that northern exports in June were lower than the approximate 450,000 barrels a day Iraq shipped from the region in the previous month.

Fears over supply from the Middle East and rising geopolitical tensions in the region are being blamed as the reasons for crude touching new records above $140 a barrel.

Falling oil production was the reason for the fall in June, the agent said. Iraqi officials confirmed to Dow Jones that there were some problems with production from northern oil fields, without giving further details

Exports from the southern Basra terminal in June were also below the normal level of 1.6 million barrels a day because rough weather.
