Belgian businessman Albert Frere doesn't rule out increasing his stake in French utility Suez Environnement, which will be spun off after the merger of French state-controlled natural gas operator Gaz de France (1020848.FR) and French utility Suez (SZE.FR), Frere says in an advanced copy of an interview with French daily Le Monde.

Frere's holding Groupe Bruxelles Lambert (GBLB.BT) has a 12% stake in Suez Environnement and could increase the stake "depending on opportunities and of course the markets'" situation, Lambert is quoted as saying.

The French state, which controlled Gaz de France ahead of its merger with Suez, will retain a 35% stake and a golden share in GDF Suez, which is "a guarantee for stability," Frere also says
