Czech power company CEZ AS (BAACEZ.PR) is considering bidding for one-third of Kaliningrad AES power company from RAO JES of Russia, a deal that would include the construction of new nuclear generation capacity in Russia, newspaper E15 reported Friday citing sources.
The new nuclear power plant would be built by 2016 and have two 1,000-megawatt reactors and is slated to have technology similar to that at the proposed expansion of CEZ's Temelin nuclear power plant in the south of the Czech Republic.
CEZ could provide cost efficiencies by building multiple instances of the same reactor type in Russia and at Temelin.
The report quotes CEZ spokeswoman Eva Novakova saying the company is aware the tender for Kaliningrad AES will be held, but offered no further comment.
Separately, newspaper Hospodarske Noviny reported Friday that CEZ is considering buying engineering firms to acquire specialists for building power plants and it reiterates its plans to build nuclear generation capacity in Turkey.
