French state-controlled power giant Electricite de France SA (1024251.FR) has asked the government to raise regulated power tariffs, Chief Executive Pierre Gadonneix said Friday.
Gadonneix said he had asked for a hike "at most" at the rate of inflation in the country later qualifying that self-imposed restraint is only for state-regulated domestic tariffs.
Gadonneix said EdF has asked for different increases by sector - France has different regulated rates for domestic and industrial clients. EdF is only limiting its ambitions for rate-hikes to inflation for domestic clients, he said. Discussions with the government are "in progress," Gadonneix said at a news conference. He mentioned rising raw materials prices but also evoked consumers' budgets and the goal of public service.
The French state owns 84.8% of EdF.
