BP PLC (BP) said Wednesday that the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, or BTC, oil pipeline it operates was shut down after a fire in Turkey but that exports continued.
The U.K. oil company said it didn't know what caused the fire at the 1 million barrels a day pipeline.
The incident happened in Eastern Turkey where local Kurdish separatists have vowed to attack the pipeline. However, a local official ruled out sabotage, according to Agence France-Presse citing the Anatolia news agency.
A BP spokeswoman in Azerbaijan said exports continued from the Ceyhan terminal in Turkey, using existing storage. Azeri production - which supplies the pipeline - was also unchanged and stored at Sangachal terminal, she said.
Once the situation is in control, the incident will be investigated, she said.
