BP PLC said Tuesday it is unaware of any Russian attack against the Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline in Georgia.
The BP spokesman said it has seen no evidence of Russian attacks against the pipeline and "no reports from people on the ground of any effect on the pipe at all."
The secretary of Georgia's National Security Council told Agence France-Presse the Russian air force have attacked the BTC, but there was no word on whether it had been damaged.
BP retains normal staffing level in Georgia on the pipeline and other facilities and has made no moves to evacuate people, the BP spokesman said. There are very few expatriate BP workers in Georgia, but the company is monitoring the situation and taking advice from embassies, he said.
The BTC pipeline, which carries Azeri crude from Baku in Azerbaijan to the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan in Turkey, was already offline due to a fire on its Turkish section when the conflict between Russia and Georgia broke out late last week. The pipeline was transporting around 850,000 barrels of oil a day before the fire.
The fire has been extinguished, but the BP spokesman said repair crews are still waiting for the pipeline to cool before they can inspect the damage.
