MOSCOW (Dow Jones)--The Baku-Supsa oil pipeline between Azerbaijan and Georgia has been closed temporarily as a precaution amid recent fighting between Russia and Georgia, a BP PLC (BP) spokeswoman in Azerbaijan told Dow Jones Newswires Tuesday.
The 150,000-barrel-a-day pipeline is operated by the Azerbaijan International Operating Co., whose largest shareholder is BP.
BP is continuing to produce oil in Azerbaijan, with exports now being carried out "via alternative routes," the spokeswoman added.
A Reuters report Tuesday quoted a Georgian Interior Security official as saying Russia had bombed the pipeline. Russia denied the attack and BP said it was "unaware" of any Russian bombing.
Azerbaijan's SOCAR has said oil exports are being sent across Georgia by rail and also to Russia via the Baku-Novorossisk pipeline.
