MOSCOW (AFP)--Russia seized 150 pieces of weaponry from Georgia in the two countries' armed conflict, many of which had been upgraded by Ukraine, ITAR-TASS news agency quoted a top Russian commander as saying Monday.
The seized weaponry included 65 tanks as well as armored personnel carriers, artillery and surface-to-air missile systems, said Lieutenant Gen. Vyacheslav Golovchenko, deputy head of Russian forces in the North Caucasus.
"We have log books indicating the tanks we found here - tanks of the first infantry brigade of the Georgian armed forces - were partially upgraded in 2002 and then fully upgraded in 2007 at enterprises in Lviv and other sites," Golovchenko said, referring to a city in Ukraine.
"It is a similar story with the APCs, whose upgrading was also handled by Ukraine," he said.
Russia has pointed an accusing finger at Ukraine's pro-Western government for supporting Georgia's military before and during Russia's armed conflict with the Caucausus republic earlier this month
