The state-owned energy company of Kazakhstan, KazMunaiGaz, wants a stake in the Karachaganak gas and condensate field operated by BG Group PLC (BG.LN), U.K. newspaper The Times reports Monday.
Timur Kulibayev, chairman of KazEnergy, the Kazakh oil industry association, told the paper: "KazMunaiGaz would like to participate (in Karachaganak) and now it is the subject of negotiation." KMG would like to take a 10-20% stake in the field, he said.
The field's owners, BG Group, Italy's Eni SpA (E), U.S.-based Chevron Corp. (CVX) and Russia's Lukoil Holdings (LKOH.RS) would each have to give up part of their stake, the paper says.
BG decline to comment, the paper says.
