Kazakhstan produced 8,521 metric tons of uranium in 2008, up
from 6,637 tons a year earlier, Kazakh state nuclear company Kazatomprom said
Thursday.
Kazatomprom said in a statement that this figure included uranium produced by
its subsidiaries and joint ventures in Kazakhstan.
The company said that Kazakhstan's target output of uranium for this year was 11,900
tons, but added that production would depend on world market conditions.
