Azerbaijan plans to almost double throughput at its Baku-Novorossiisk oil pipeline this year to 2.5 million metric tons from 1.3 million tons in 2008, an official from the country's state oil company, Socar, said Tuesday.

Azerbaijan currently exports 1.1 million barrels of oil a day, of which between 950,000 and 990,000 barrels are exported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, the company said.

The Socar official also said Azeri exports to the U.S., where output is falling, can be increased to 200,000 barrels of oil a day from the current 73,000 barrels.
