BP PLC (BP) said Wednesday it has been awarded two blocks to explore for hydrocarbons offshore Egypt, a country which is already a significant producer and exporter of natural gas.
BP has been awarded 100% of the North Tineh Offshore block in deep water offshore about 60 kilometers north of Port Said, covering an area of approximately 2,400 square kilometers in water reaching a depth of 1000 meters.
It also has a one-third interest and operatorship of the North Damietta Offshore block, which is adjacent to Block 2 and covers an area of around 1,600 square kilometers.
BP is committed to drilling three exploration wells on North Tineh and four on North Damietta in the next six years.
