Azerbaijan produced 15.878 million metric tons of crude oil from January to April, up 0.9% on the same period last year, Azerbaijan's state statistics agency said late Wednesday.

That totals a daily average of 969,881 barrels for the period.

The BP PLC (BP)-led consortium that operates Azerbaijan's Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli block in the Caspian Sea produced 13.1 million tons in the first four months of the year, while state oil company Socar produced 2.78 million tons in the period, the agency said.

Azerbaijan's gas output over the four months increased 0.9% on the year to 7.99 billion cubic meters, of which the BP-led consortium produced 3.96 billion cubic meters.

Last year, Azerbaijan produced 44.5 million tons of crude oil, or 893,658 barrels a day.

Azeri officials forecast 2009 production to total 50 million tons.
