Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov urged Iran Tuesday to demonstrate to the international community that its nuclear program is peaceful, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports on its Web site.
"We have confirmed the need to assure the international community of the exclusively peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program," Lavrov is quoted as saying at a news conference with his Israeli counterpart, Avigdor Lieberman.
"Our proposals on Iran are well known. We expect a constructive reaction from the Iranian authorities."
The West accuses Iran of secretly pursuing a nuclear weapons program, but Iran says it needs nuclear power solely for civilian purposes.
