The South East Europe Energy Dialogue (SEEED), is being organized by the Institute of Energy for South East Europe (IENE) for the third consecutive year. The 3rd SEEED, which is being held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Thessaloniki is a forum bringing together senior government officials, corporate leaders, financiers, academics and energy experts from Southeast Europe but also from oil and gas producing countries who will discuss the key energy issues of the current geopolitical agenda.

One of the main objectives of the 3d SEEED is to evolve into an open forum type regional communication platform where key energy and environmental issues can be openly discussed and analysed in depth. The results from such a process can be extremely useful to both government bodies and private sector companies as they are getting ready to commit resources to large scale investments in the energy sector of the region. SE Europe’s energy sector is continuing its expansion, albeit at a slower rate, despite the international economic downturn. The current geopolitical situation along with Climate Change considerations also emerge as key parameters which are likely to effect growth in the energy sector of the SE European region.
.
The development of concurrent energy and environmental strategies capable of meeting the sustainability objectives of the EU and how these may apply in the region will be discussed in depth in this year’s Dialogue. Another key objective of this two day high level meeting will be an all round examination of the security and energy supply options facing Europe, where the role of SE Europe as a key energy transit corridor is crucial. The role of the Balkans as a transit corridor for the main European energy markets will merit special examination while the setting up of regional electricity exchanges and the electricity market integration in SE Europe are considered to be major issues in 3rd SEEED.

Finally, the European Union’s latest initiatives for the drastic reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and its targets for covering 20% of its energy needs from RES and energy conservation to the tune of also 20%, examined at length as part of the 3rd SEEED deliberations.
