Slovakian monopoly natural gas importer and pipeline operator Slovensky Plynarensky Priemysel AS, or SPP, said Monday that it has signed with E.ON Ruhrgas (EOAN.XE) a 10-year contract on natural gas supplies to Slovakia.
Under this contract, E.ON Ruhrgas will each year supply SPP with up to 500 million cubic metres of gas from its western sources.
A similar long-term contract with GDF Suez (GSZ.FR) has also been approved by the company bodies and is expected to be finalised soon.
Gazprom export (GSPBEX.RS), the company with which SPP has a long-term contract, will continue to be the main gas supplier.
Nevertheless, SPP plans to step up its diversification efforts even further to ensure that it can secure stable supplies of natural gas to the Slovak territory even in the event of a longer period of zero deliveries from Russia.
