Ukraine has welcomed the launch of the Nabucco gas pipeline project, and said it was ready to join, a deputy head of the Ukrainian president's secretariat said Tuesday, according to the RIA Novosti news service.
An intergovernmental agreement on the transit of Caspian gas to Europe was signed Monday in Turkey.
"Ukraine as the initiating country behind the creation of the Caspian-Black Sea-Baltic energy space...positively assesses the signing of the inter-governmental agreement on the construction of the Nabucco gas pipeline," Andrei Honcharuk said.
The project, planned to go on stream in 2014, is designed to pump central Asian gas through Turkey to Austria and Germany.
