Eni SpA (E) said Wednesday it has signed an exploration deal with the Congo in a move to further strengthen its operations in the African country.

In an emailed statement the Italian oil giant said that Eni will develop liquid and gas hydrocarbons in the east of the country.

In the statement Eni said that it will produce 450,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day there.

Eni has had a presence in sub-Saharan Africa since the 1960s and is an operator in the main oil-producing countries such as Angola, Nigeria, Congo, Gabon and Mozambique.

At 1130 GMT its shares were +0.9% at EUR16.04 on an overall positive market.
