Russian President Dmitri Medvedev is opposed to further nuclear proliferation, RIA Novosti reports Friday.
"The world without nuclear weapons is an ideal which should be on our agenda," Medvedev said in an interview with Russia's Channel 1 to be broadcast Sunday.
"We are against the extension of the nuclear club," he said. "Otherwise the situation will get out of control."
Russia, the U.S., the U.K., France, China, India and Pakistan are confirmed nuclear weapons states, with North Korea and Israel suspected of having nuclear arsenals.
