The Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) and the Council of European
Energy Regulators (CEER) are co-hosting in Athens the fourth World Forum on
Energy Regulation (WFER IV), to be held
from the 18 till the 21 October 2009, at the Athenaeum Intercontinental Hotel. The
WFER IV is under the patronage of the H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Carolos Papoulias and the
European Commissioner for Energy, Mr Andris Piebagals.
The WFER IV builds upon the themes and key findings of the past three Fora
(Montreal, 2000, Rome,
2003 and Washington,
2006). However the Forum contents are dynamic and are adjusted in each WFER IV
edition to reflect recent global developments and trends in energy regulation. An
International Programme Committee (IPC) comprising more than 50 energy
stakeholders from across the world and the WFER IV Steering Committee (SC) with
members the Presidents of all Regional Associations of Energy Regulators from
across the globe were actively involved in the Programme and Invited
Chair/Speaker selection process. A complete list of the IPC and SC members is
included in the Forum website (www.worldforumiv.info) The programme includes twenty
two plenary and parallel sessions with 130 distinguished speakers and chair
persons from six continents developed across four (4) key themes:
• Reliability and security of supply
(Track A)
• The role of regulators in
responding to climate change (Track B),
• Competitiveness and affordability (Track C)
• Issues of relevance to the
independence, powers, responsibilities, best practices and training of
regulators (Track D).
