LONDON (Dow Jones)--Belgian gas network operator Fluxys SA (FLUX.BT) said Thursday it has bought a 10% stake in the Interconnector gas pipeline that links the U.K. and Belgium from Germany utility E.ON AG (EOAN.XE) for an undisclosed sum.
E.ON's subsidiary Ruhrgas previously held a 25% stake in the pipeline.
The acquisition is part of Fluxys' strategy of increasing cooperation with other gas network operators outside Belgium and investing in projects that improve integration of northwest Europe's gas market, said Walter Peeraer, President and Chief Executive of Fluxys.
Fluxys has a 20% stake in BBL Company, which operates a gas pipeline linking the U.K. and the Netherlands.
