The State of Qatar is interested in
investing in a 5- to 6-billion-euro liquefied natural gas plant to be built at
Astakos in central
Greece
, according to the General Secretariat of Communications.
State Minister Haris Paboukis contacted
Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah over the deal and
the two governments agreed to support the project, the secretariat said in a
statement yesterday without providing any further details.
“Talks are at an advanced stage. The total
value of the project is estimated at between 5 and 6 billion euros,” a
government source told Kathimerini English Edition.
Investment plans include the establishment
of a liquefied natural gas terminal plant, electrical power units and the use
of technology that creates biomass energy from gases produced by the plant.
According to press reports, some 1,500
jobs could be created by the project.
