"We have finalized several important and long-pending defense cooperation projects," Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said during a joint appearance with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. Singh didn't give any details.

India and Russia have enjoyed strong bilateral ties since 1950s. The erstwhile Soviet Union collaborated with India in setting up the country's first steel, pharmaceutical and nuclear power plants. While India has become much closer to the U.S. in the past decade, Russia remains a major political ally and a key defense supplier for the South Asian nation. The two countries are also collaborating on several energy, nuclear power and space projects.
