Iran's instillation of centrifuges, which rotate at supersonic speed to enrich
uranium, has caused consternation among world powers, which are fearful of
Iran's designs for nuclear fuel. Iran maintains its atomic program is for
civilian use only.
According to the latest United Nations nuclear watchdog report, Iran has
installed 8,610 centrifuges at its Natanz uranium-enrichment facility. Of
these, 3,772 centrifuges are actively enriching uranium under the supervision
of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
