Germany's Siemens AG (SI) said Thursday it will join French solar power initiative Transgreen, which is supposed to complement a German-led project known as Desertec.

Transgreen, which is supposed to complement a German-led project known as
Desertec.
"We will join the Transgreen consortium," a Siemens spokeswoman told
Dow Jones Newswires Thursday.
Transgreen is a French government-led project aiming to build a network of
undersea electricity lines to bring solar power from
Africa
to
Europe
.
Transgreen is supposed to complement Desertec, which aims to build, over 40
years, a huge network of wind turbines and solar electricity sites in
North
Africa
and the
Middle East
.
