IENE Seminar to Focus on «Oil and the Economy»

The strong interdependence between oil and the economy will be the subject of a seminar to be organized by IENE which will be held on Thursday, July 1st 2010 in the Auditorium of the National Research Foundation (NHRF) in Athens (48 Vassileos Constantinou Ave., 11635 Athens, Greece). Through «Oil and Economy 2010» Seminar, the Institute of Energy for SE Europe provides the opportunity of discussion between key players of the Greek oil market including senior company executives, analysts, academics as well as representatives of professional and consumers associations, in an effort to examine all aspects of the oil market and its functioning
The strong interdependence between oil and the economy will be the subject of a seminar to be organized by IENE which will be held on Thursday, July 1st 2010 in the Auditorium of the National Research Foundation (NHRF) in Athens (48 Vassileos Constantinou Ave., 11635 Athens, Greece). Through «Oil and Economy 2010» Seminar, the Institute of Energy for SE Europe provides the opportunity of discussion between key players of the Greek oil market including senior company executives, analysts, academics as well as representatives of professional and consumers associations, in an effort to examine all aspects of the oil market and its functioning.

The seminar’s first session will focus on the global oil scene and its impact on Greece’s economy and will be co-ordinated by Dr. Dinos Nikolaou, Petroleum Geologist, and Member of IENE’s BoD. Mr. John Maniatis, Deputy Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change will make an introductory speech of the event, followed by Mr. Constantine Michalos, Chairman of ACCI (Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry). Mr. Costis Stambolis, Deputy Chairman & Executive Director of ΙΕΝΕ, will analyze the latest developments in the international oil market, whereas Prof. Dionysios Chionis, of Democritus University of Thrace-Greece, Department of International Economic Relations and Development, will focus on the impact of high oil prices on the Greek economy, with special reference to the stability and growth pact agreed between Greece and the EU. Mr. John Costopoulos, CEO of Hellenic Petroleum SA, Greece’s largest oil company, will conclude the session with a keynote presentation on the energy challenges facing Greece and the SE European region.

The second session, on refining, storage, oil marketing and security of supply, will begin with an intervention of Mr. Stephanos Komninos, Secretary General of Commerce at the Ministry of Economy, Competitiveness and Shipping. Other speakers will include Mr. Nikos Satras, special investments analyst at the Strategic Planning Department  of Motoroil S.A., Mr. Argyris Favvatas, Electrical Engineer, and Factory Director of “Agroinvest S.A.”, as well as Mr. Anastasios Tossios, Client Technical Service Director of EPA Attiki S.A.

Finally, a panel discussion on «Oil Market Operation and Competition» will examine the main issues that the oil products sector is facing and their impact on the entire Greek economy. The panel discussion participants include: Mr. Constantine Koutlas, CEO of K-Oil S.A. and Secretary General of the Hellenic Oil Product Companies Association, Mr. Petros Moutopoulos, Economic Director of Silk Oil S.A., Mr. Evaggelos Kotsos, Deputy Secretary General of Hellenic Federation of Fuel Traders and Operators (POPEK), Mr. Dimitrios Makrivellios, Former Chairman of ΟΒΕ and Mr. Ilias Kokougiannis, Head of Members and Public Relations Department of the EKPOIZO consumers association.

The second Session, as well as the Panel Discussion, will be co-ordinated by Mr. Thomas Lamnidis, Lawyer and a Partner of KLC Law firm and member of IENE’s Executive Committee.
