news" that BP PLC's (BP, BP.LN) efforts to plug the well with heavy mud
was a success.
Obama, speaking at the labor organization the AFL-CIO, said "The long
battle to contain the leak is finally coming close to an end."
BP said its "static kill" procedure, where heavy drilling mud is used
to push oil from the runaway well back into the reservoir, had been a success.
Obama also praised a report from a federal agency that said a vast majority of
the 4.9 million barrels of oil that spewed from the BP well had disappeared.
