China Coal Energy Co. (1898.HK), the country's second-largest coal producer by revenue after Shenhua Energy Co., said Tuesday it is confident it will be able to raise its coal output to 200 million metric tons in 2014, from the 108.56 million tons it produced last year.

President Yang Lieke told reporters at a news conference the company is seeing growing pressure from higher production costs in the second half.

Yang also said the company will delay the start of operations at Wangjialing Coal Mine because of the flooding accident in March that killed 38 workers.

Wangjialing Coal Mine is still under construction. It is owned by Huajin Coking Coal Co., in which China Coal Energy holds a 50% stake.

Hong Kong- and Shanghai-listed China Coal Energy said Friday its first-half net profit rose 25% to CNY5.45 billion (US$801 million) from CNY4.34 billion a year earlier due to increased coal demand.
