The biggest PV park in the world is going to be built in
Kozani
,
Greece
, by the national power
company, PPC, with an estimated 200MW capacity. Its cost is projected at 600
million euros and the park will be constructed by a consortium, in which PPC
will participate with 51%. Already there is an expressed international interest
for the project by companies like the American AES. So far, the greatest PV
park globally is the one in
La Mancha
,
Spain
, with a capacity of
60MW.
Sources from within PPC claim that the park could actually reach 300MW
with a cost of 800 million euros. The company has invested in renewables through
its subsidiary, PPC Renewables and also plans other PV parks in
Greece
, like the one in
Megalopolis (50MW). Consultations between PPC and foreign investors are being
carried out at the moment, with the goal of finalizing an agreement within the
next few weeks. The park in Kozani is going to be constructed in an area that
is part of a PPC coalmine.
