Shareholders of the Ukrainian-Russian company “International Consortium for the Management and Development of the Ukrainian Gas Transportation System” are initiating the lifting of the ban on the participation of foreign companies in the management of the Ukrainian gas pipelines, Anatoly Podmyshalsky, head of the Gazprom department for work with former USSR republics, president of Gazprom Sbyt Ukraine Company, said in his report at the forum entitled “Ukrainian fuel and energy complex: today and tomorrow.”

“A meeting of shareholders of the Consortium was held in September. It was created in 2004 for the management and development of Ukraine’s gas transportation system. I was happy to hear that the shareholders of Naftogaz Ukrainy and of Gazprom jointly decided to come up with the legislative initiative for making amendments to the corresponding laws, which would allow foreign countries, including Russia, to take part in the management of the Ukrainian gas transportation system,” Podmyshalsky continued.

“This is a very serious step, which gives grounds for hope that we can think about Ukraine’s gas transportation system. We could start talks on the amount of gas to be transported by it in a long perspective, and, proceeding from those figures, we could draft plans about what should be preserved and what should be modernized.”
