"The
U.K.
has
one of the most robust safety systems in the world," Hendry said,
defending the
U.K.
's
refusal to implement a moratorium on offshore drilling in the wake of BP PLC's
(BP) April Gulf of Mexico spill.
"At this stage we aren't considering extra measures for deepwater
wells," Hendry said.
Hendry was being questioned in the final oral session of the Energy and Climate
Change Committee's investigation into the implications of the Macondo spill on
deepwater drilling in the
U.K.
