Raising $100 billion a year of climate finance by 2020 is challenging, but possible, a United Nations advisory group said in a report Friday.

Climate finance, or the amount of money rich nations will give developing countries to adapt to climate change, is one of the key elements in securing a legally binding global treaty to cut greenhouse gas emissions and is an essential part of the negotiation process.

The funding will also be critical in enabling developing countries to go further on any commitments they make as part of the process.
