China
has
developed technology to reuse spent nuclear fuel, the country's state TV said,
according to the BBC. This may put a damper on
China
's
expected nuclear fuel use, BMO Capital says - only the
UK
and
France
currently reprocess major amounts of fuel, and their reprocessing makes up 5%
of world supply.
China
is
the fastest growing user of nuclear power and fuel, and has plans underway for
more than two dozen new reactors this decade. However, BMO notes that it will
take
China
a
long time to develop the recycling technology, with the first full-scale
reactor not built until the early 2020s.
