The Middle East is set to surpass North America as the world's leading regional supplier of liquified petroleum gas, or LPG, in 2011 and the United Arab Emirates will supply a major part of this, an Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., or Adnoc, official said.

In Adnoc's latest magazine Abdulla Sultan Al Nuaimi, Gas Sales Manager at Adnoc, said the
Middle East is expected to surpass North America by the end of 2011 with a potential supply that may reach 61 million metric tons.

"The U.A.E. percentage in LPG supply will contribute 25% of total LPG supplied and this would raise it to 33% of the total
Middle East by 2014," Al Nuaimi added.

LPG demand growth is strongest in
Asia and the Middle East . Asia is the largest LPG consuming region and as its economy grows its demand for LPG is expanding.

Asia currently consumes more than 30% of the total LPG demand worldwide and around 65% of total LPG demand has been coming from Asia and the Middle East .

Residential and commercial sectors are the major consumers of LPG and consume more than 50% of total LPG, followed by the petrochemical sector which is forecast to grow by another 13 million metric tons by 2013. Other sectors that rely heavily on LPG include industrial and auto fuel sectors as well as the refining sector whose consumption is expected to grow by 12 million metric tons by 2013.
